Automobiles in Germany's City Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Officers stated they were contacted by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in association with the event," they stated.

City officials said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.

A senior political figure stated the attack made him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
